Choosing vendors for your wedding day isn’t an easy job. There’s SO many decisions to make and you want to choose a team that’s going to bring your vision to life. But, choosing your wedding photographer is one of the most important choices you’ll make for your wedding day. Think about it: not only do we have one of the most important jobs – documenting your day – but we’re going to be one of the few vendors that spend most of the day with you and your spouse. So, I want to share a few tips for how to choose your wedding photographer!
Honestly, it’s a tie for me between their style and personality when it comes to choosing your wedding photographer. You want someone that you get along with and that you enjoy being around. Your wedding photographer will be there when you start getting ready. They’ll be with you during a first look, your portraits and ceremony, all the way to the end of the night. Sometimes we’re the last people you talk to on your wedding day. So I really mean it when I say: choose someone you like and get along with. Not only that, be sure you feel comfortable and relaxed around them.
Take a look at any potential wedding photographer’s portfolios before you book. A great way to start, look at their website, look at all their social proofs, and if that’s not enough ask your potential wedding photographer for a gallery. You want to know what that could potentially look like – start to finish. If you like their style, definitely put them in the running for your big day! Looking through these will also show you if they’re experienced. Do you see a wide range of locations and venues? That will tell you they’re confident and comfortable in most any situation! That’s important on a wedding day.
The last thing you should review carefully when choosing a wedding photographer is the packages they offer. Is getting a printed album important to you? Do you want just digital files? How long will they be with you on your wedding day? See if you have an engagement session or bridal session included. Review the packages and compare them to the other photographers you’re interested in. Choose the photographer that’s going to serve you the best!
While making a decision on your wedding photographer is hard, have fun with it! This is someone who’s going to capture your wedding day – get to know them and enjoy the process to choose your wedding photographer! You’ll be surprised to find you may have a new friend when this is all over. As an Ohio wedding photographer, I feel lucky to know every client I’ve worked with. I don’t take the honor of capturing a wedding day lightly – and I can’t wait to find out if we’ll be a good fit!
